FAQs

Planning a photo session can sometimes be really stressful! What to wear, what time of they day to book, what about poor weather conditions?

These are all very common questions that I get on a regular basis! So take a deep breath, remember that your vacation is supposed to be stress-free, and let me worry about this stuff! But in the mean time, check out my FAQs to help you feel more at peace!

Where should my portrait session take place?

Looking for something specific? Drop me a note and I can make some great recommendations!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Any colors that are found in nature always work well (think light blues, light greens, light pinks, and cream colors). If you have a family try not to have everyone be too matchy-matchy .Families that look the best are those who have a color palette and don’t stick to one shade or color. Please, please don’t wear all one color or matching aloha shirts. You want your images to be timeless and beautifully styled! Don’t be afraid to be colorful! Even if you all aren’t wearing the same color blue (or green or yellow or whatever), it will still look magnificent!

I’M SO EXCITED TO SEE MY PHOTOS! WHEN WILL THEY BE READY?

My turn around time is between two and four weeks depending on the time of the year. I will blog about our session and post a sneak peak on my Facebook and Instagram within a few days of our session (please, feel free to tag yourself)! I will email you when your online gallery is available.

WHAT TIME OF THE DAY IS BETTER FOR MY MAUI PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION: MORNING OR EVENING?

Morning and evening have the same light value, but each time of day has a different feel to it. So really it depends on the look you want for your photos!

The mornings offer mostly empty beaches, calm seas, and exquisitely vibrant colors. I recommend mornings for families with children under the age of three, as children are often more alert and happy in the mornings.

Evening light is typically warmer and can be more dynamic with the sunset–this is known as the “golden hour.” However, the wind typically picks up in the afternoons.

I'm sold! How do I reserve a date?

I hold dates once I get a $150 non-refundable retainer. Once we have decided on a date I will send you an invoice and contract–all of this is taken care of online! For portrait sessions, I require the balance to be paid 7 days before our session. Don’t worry about remembering, my booking software will send you a reminder email when your balance is due!

What if it rains on the day of our session?

Luckily, this rarely happens here in Maui. Some locations have a tendency to be “rainier” than other places.

The good news is that here on Maui we have 15 micro eco-systems that offer various kinds of weather conditions. If it raining in one location we can typically drive 15 minutes in the opposite direction and find sunny weather. However, Maui does, every blue moon, have rainy and inclement weather. In that case we can reschedule our session or if we are unable to find a date your retainer will be refunded.
