Maui Couples Photographer
Meet Kayla and Joe – the kind of couple that you meet and they instantly melt your heart with their natural chemistry and zest for life. They’re the kind of folks I feel like I’ve known forever and I was so happy that they chose me to be their Maui couples photographer.
Kayla and Joe were here for their friend’s wedding down in South Maui, but decided that since they’re here, they might as well embrace the islands and get some photos done too! I was on board from day one.
Because we were going to several locations for our sweetheart session, Kayla chose a long teal dress and a beautiful blush dress for the shoot. I love that the blues went well in the earlier shot and that pink dress picked up the golden hues for sunset! She had her hair and makeup done by Maui Makeup Artistry; they did a superb job!
When we began our shoot, I wanted to immediately head to Makena in south Maui. However, looking to the south, dark blue clouds had begun to form. The further we drove, the more it began to rain. So instead of heading south and working my way back up the coast, we did things in reverse! We began our session at Keawakapu Beach in Wailea where we had wide open beaches and bright blue water (and, seriously, how perfect is that dress for this location?).
For the remainder of the session, we played tag with the rain. I had one spot I really wanted to take them: it’s a large lava rock formation that goes out into the ocean. It features the dark rock, wide open skies, and amazing 180 degree views; but it was still sprinkling. I turned to Kayla and Joe and said “want to chance it?” They shrugged and said “sure!” Kayla put my shopping bag over head and we headed out to the lava rock. I am SO glad they were willing, because those were some of my favorite shots from the whole session!
We ended out session all the way down in Makena. We waited a bit after the sun had set because I wanted to try something new. Kayla and Joe had wanted to do sparkers, but we couldn’t find any on island. But a lantern? Well, that would work perfectly! The sun had set and the colors in the sky were dying, but the result was so, so beautiful.
Kayla and Joe – thank you for trusting me to be your Maui couples photographer! I lvoed that you guys wanted to do something different for your Maui photography session – and I’m so happy you braved the rain to get the shot! You guys are the best!
