Maui Wedding at Olowalu Plantation House
This Maui wedding at Olowalu Plantation House had all the things that a Hawaiian wedding should have: ocean, surf, mountains, family, friends, a killer sunset, and a beautiful venue.
Last year I met Hortencia and Conrad and was able to do their engagement photos – which I absolutely love! Being a destionation wedding photographer it is not often that I get to meet the bride and groom face-to-face before the big day. Doing an engagement session ahead of time helps me get to know them as a couple and, in turn, the wedding day photos are so much more relaxed!
The day began with the bridal party getting ready at the venue before heading to Maria Lanakila Catholic Church in Lahaina for the ceremony. Their family and friends that came from near and far filled the pews to celebrate Conrad and Hortencia. The whole ceremony was filled with smiles and sweet moments (my favorite being when the flower girl left her dad to go hold Hortencia’s hand!).
For the reception, we headed back to Olowalu Plantation House. This place is one of my favorite venues on Maui. It has all the charm of Old Hawai’i while still catering to modern day amenities. Though there is no beach at this venue, the pier and large grassy areas make up for it ten-fold. The couple chose coral and mint for their colors and used Honolulu Cookie Company for their favors and tropical flowers adorned each table.
The sunset that night was EPIC. And I don’t use that term lightly. It just…kept going. The afterglow probably lasted close to 30 minutes! After the romantic photos out on the pier, we headed back in to the reception where we did the cake cutting and speeches and, the best part – DANCING! It began to softly rain, which is unusual for this location, but that didn’t stop the party! They just kept dancing right through it!
