Sunrise Engagement Session on Maui’s North Shore
Part of Jamie’s family is from Hawaii–from the Big Island specifically. Jamie knew she wanted her engagement shots done here since Hawaii holds such a special place in her history and in their hearts. So a sunrise engagement session on Maui’s North Shore was going to be the perfect set up for the two.
Jamie and Michael are my new poster children for “Get your butts out of bed and do a sunrise session!” This was one of my favorite morning sessions I’ve done in a long time. Jamie and Michael met me over at Baldwin Beach on Maui’s North Shore at 5:50 A.M. Just as the sun was coming up over the horizon, I turned to look at the West Maui Mountains and saw this beautiful pink color. The ocean was really calm and clear. There was nobody on the beach. We also had encounters with some honu (sea turtles) and a Hawaiian monk seal at the end of our session. That is really rare as there are only about 300 Hawaiian monk seals left in the wild.
So, we started our session at Baldwin Beach to capture those pink mountains and clear water. Then we made our way further down the road to Hana. We stopped at Ho’okipa Beach Park to get some really cool cliff shots. We were even able to get some shots of the old sugar cane fields, which won’t be here much longer considering that Maui isn’t producing sugar any more. To end the session, we headed to a beach over by Mama’s Fish House which was where we were photobombed by that monk seal. While there, we were able to get some shots with in the trees with the beach scenery in the background.
Jamie and Michael: Thank you for getting up so early to for our sunrise engagement session on Maui’s North Shore. You guys rocked the session, and we got such awesome images you can only get in the morning light! Congratulations on your engagement!
