Private Maui Wedding Venue | Jes + Jason

With a love of all things wine and good food, I knew that this union of Jes and Jason at a private Maui wedding venue (Olowalu Plantation House) would be nothing short of spectacular.

I documented their rehearsal dinner the day before at Humble Market Kitchin in Wailea – where we had a full banquet room to welcome their guests. As a photographer, I love being there for their welcome dinner because I get to meet and mingle with the guests before the big day. It gives everyone a chance to get comfortable with me before we head into wedding day festivities.

On the day of the wedding, the gals got ready at the Andaz, which is my absolute favorite getting ready location on Maui. Bright light, spacious rooms – it’s perfect for those preparatory images that set the stage for the rest of the day.

Once Jes and the gals had glammed up, we loaded up into a party bus and headed to Olowalu. I highly recommend getting transportation for the wedding party if you’re having your wedding at Olowalu and aren’t staying close. This way you can over-indulge in your favorite beverages and not worry about driving home. That stretch of highway can be really dark at night so I always feel better about the safety of my couples when they opt to use transportation!

When we arrived at Olowalu, Jes’s incredible Galia Lahav dress was waiting for us, courtesy of Maui Wedding Gown Pressing. Guys, this dress was INCREDIBLE. the design was impeccable and it fit Jes perfectly (read: it took 4 of us to get her in it because it fit like a glove!). Paired with her cathedral-length veil, I knew she was going to be a show-stopping bride.

I could do a recap step by step of their wedding, but instead, I’d rather tell you about the things I absolutely loved about their day:

  1. First look with time for portraits and family portraits well before the ceremony.
I’ve talked a lot about how first looks can fall flat if they happen 5 minutes before ceremony time – but I loved Jes and Jason’s because they had lots of breathing room in their timeline. We did their first look, bridal party, and some family portraits and they still had time to relax before the ceremony!
  2. Sweetheart table.
I love a good sweetheart table. During their amuse bouche course of champagne and caviar, they were able to sit back and enjoy and take in the moment
  3. Peekaboo Rainbow!
Ok – we can’t control this one – but hot-damn this was a cool moment. We had a super overcast day (hallelujah) and right when we went out to do portraits a little rainbow appeared on the horizon. I’ve never seen one at Olowalu before (and I’ve shot a ton of weddings at Olowalu)! I’m sure my excitement was palpable.
  4. Jes’ outfit change.
Jes had another stunning Galia Lahav party dress and I think everyone completely stopped dancing when she came out of the plantation house – because it was THAT incredible.

There were so many things that made this wedding amazing – but most of all, it was the people and the love that these two shared.
