ALOHA & WELCOME!
Honestly, writing an “about me” section is a really uncomfortable and I’m never quite sure where to start! I didn’t always want to be a photographer. My journals as a kid weren’t filled with grand ideas of living in Hawai’i and photographing couples on one of the most important days of their lives. This career found me while I was teaching high school here.
I moved to Maui in 2009 with my husband, a few suitcases, and a chance for a new beginning. It was Maui that re-ignited my love for photography (though I never thought I would do it professionally).
I was a high school language arts teacher for four years here on Maui. I built this little business between lesson plans and after-school tutoring.
I photographed my first wedding in 2010 and left teaching in 2014 – I haven’t looked back since.
I know, that sounds SO incredibly formal. But my mission is simple:
To document your wedding with authenticity and documentary style shooting – infused with artistry and the beauty of Hawai’i
I am inspired by love, nature, and the beauty of relationships – and years from now I want you to remember how your wedding day FELT through your images.
If I’m going to be spending one of the most important days of your life with you, it’s probably good you get to know me a bit better!
Because let’s be real – it’s way more appealing to call each other friends, right?
I grew up in a small town outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. I’m a Midwest girl at heart that loves bonfires, over-sized sweaters, and all things cheese.
I met my husband in high school. I always knew he was the man I was supposed to marry, but we didn’t start dating until I was 21.
I’m a fruit-acholic. I’ve never met a fruit I don’t like.
I own another company, Engaged on Maui, that helps guys and gals plan and document their proposals! I have a staff of four photographers and a BA office manager! I love it!
I’m a stereotypical Libra. I’m constantly struggling to achieve balance and find that I use my left brain as much as my right. Like – I love to be outside but only want to “camp” if there is a bed involved. I’m all about rustic vacations, as long as I get to stay in a nice hotel at least one night!
I’m competitive. To a fault. Monopoly is not allowed in my home. Somehow Settlers of Catan made it here – and I get anxiety every time it comes out.
And most importantly – I’m a mommy! My daughter, Evelyn Sue Nelson, was born on May 26, 2017 after a fast and furious delivery! We are totally in love with this little girl!
Yeah, I have some accolades.
But truthfully, I love putting my time and energy into my couples and creating an amazing customer experience over submitting to publishers.
But hey – it’s fun to show what I’ve done and I’m honored to receive the awards I have!
I just completed my new website and I'm SO happy with how it turned out! But when I was compiling the ABOUT ME page I realized that the last post I did that was a personal post was the one about Evelyn's birth...nearly a year ago. Where did the last year go? Somewhere...
The past 7 weeks have been the most dynamic of my entire life. And I've had so many thoughts swirling around my head about delivery, motherhood, postpartum blues, community, and love. SO much about love. I'm going to try to keep this blog post as concise as I can and...
